Shopping In Khao Lak BY travel writer Richard Doring Shopping can be real fun in Thailand, and cheap too. In the Khaolak Shopping Bazaar , in Sawasdee Plaza 1 & 2 , along Petchkasem Highway or at the junction to the beach at Ban Bang Niang you find many small shops, offering all kinds of souvenirs, clothing, hand bags, shoes and more.
Of course, there are also cosmetics, beverages, and foodstuff for sale. Most shops are open until 9 p.m. at least.
The largest "supermarket" the area -- Nang Thong Supermarket provides a broad range of brands ,products and comfort items from the west making it very popular with tourists looking for modern home convenience products.
The owners know the preferences of their customers for over 15 years already. |

For tailor-made clothing nobody has to spend valuable holiday time in Bangkok. Khao Lak, too, has a large number of excellent tailors. Meanwhile there are over 30 tailor shops in Khao Lak, some of them in high end outlets. Quite a few of them belong to the same owners who live somewhere else. The staff is mostly of Indian or Nepali origin. |

Markets
In Bang Niang there is a large, picturesque, open market on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, which is situated by the main road, next to 7/11. Under sun shades, umbrellas, and plastic tent roofs, everything for the daily need is sold.: from fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, seafood, spices, to clothes, shoes, watches, perfumes, glasses and flowers, the choice is endless.
There are also many food stalls selling snacks of all kinds, from chicken wings, hamburgers, fish, sushi, nudel and rice dishes, to cakes, shakes, sweets and sticky rice. Khanom Chin, my favourite dish, is also available here. Prices are generally reasonable, but in the cloth shops, serious haggling is necessary! The market has become a growing tourist attraction with 5 -6 Bars, where one can sit watch a colourful mix of all sorts of people, ages and nationalities walk by, which is a favourite past time for many.
In Khuk Khak, about 3 Km north of Bang Niang at the bus station, you will find a large market selling all kinds of fresh vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. It opens daily every morning early and closes around midday. This market is mainly visited by Thais and foreigners living here.

Vegetable and fruit stalls are open daily until about 19.00. On market days fresh fish and meat are also sold. |
There are a growing number of bars at the market. These are much visited by men who prefer to sit and watch the passers by while enjoying a cool beer or two, rather than going shopping wirth their wives. |
